First dates are supposed to be exciting, but there’s also nothing quite so scary as a first date. You want to look great, but you also don’t want to do too much and end up looking like you crawled straight out of the 80’s. There’s a thin line, but if you want to know how to prepare for a first date, take the guesswork out of your date night look and read on!
Prep Your Face Before Applying Makeup
Good makeup doesn’t just start when you pick up a makeup brush and start digging into a palette. You have to remember that to create a masterpiece, the canvass has to be prepped. Our face is our canvass, so prepping our face before putting on any type of makeup is important. To achieve a flawless look, you’ll need to put in effort before you start. Wash and cleanse your face but be careful to not apply or do something that might irritate your skin. Use cold water to rinse off because it will help minimize pore size.As the last step, apply a lightweight moisturizer and something with at least SPF 30 if possible.
Hide Blemishes and Other Skin Imperfections
Acne and under-eye will come and rear their ugly heads no matter how extensive your skin care regimen is if you don’t get enough sleep or because of other factors like hormones. You would think that just slapping on some concealer is enough, but that’s not exactly the whole story. To conceal redness (from tired eyes or acne), use a concealer with a greenish hue. Foundation can be applied as you would normally do it.
Even Out Your Face and Neck
Don’t just check your face in the mirror. Do you think your skin tone matches the rest of your body? To avoid stepping out of the house looking like you’re wearing a mask, this step just as important as the others. A little contouring (a shadow here and a highlight there) on your collarbone and cleavage area can make a significant difference.
Blotting Paper is Your Friend
Blotting paper should always be handy especially if you have combination or oily skin. The last impression you want to leave your date is that you’re a hot and greasy mess at the end of the night.
Use More than One Eyeshadow Color
Create an illusion of more depth and dimension by using more than one color of eyeshadow. But only use up to three colors – a light shade, a a dark shade, and your base shade – so you don’t overdo it and end up with raccoon eyes. And don’t forget your favorite highlighter in the middle of your eyelid and on the brow bone for that extra sparkle in your eyes!
Spider Lashes Will Never be a Thing
If you end up with spider lashes because of a clumpy mascara or pumping the wand too much in and out of the tube, it doesn’t matter how good your eye makeup looks. Use disposable wants to avoid clumping or just use natural looking false lashes instead.
Flaunt One Feature
Choose one part of your face and make the pop and draw attention to, but keep the rest of the face neutral. If you want bold eyes, go to town with that, but leave your cheeks and your lips nude. If you want bold lips, ditch the smokey eye look and leave the rest of the face nude. Got it? Good!
Going on a first date is already stressful in itself, so I hope these tips will help ease your worries even for a bit. And besides, no matter what you look, be yourself on the inside. That’s my number one tip for your date to go well.
