Even the smallest cuts and wounds are prone to infection, but witch hazel can eradicate germs and help a minor cut heal faster. Apply witch hazel to a scrape or cut and it will help sanitize the wound to prevent infections.
- Witch hazel can soothe sunburns too!
Sunburns can be extremely painful and can be infected if left untreated for long. If you have some witch hazel in your beauty kit, soak a clean cloth in witch hazel and place it on the sunburned skin to soothe the pain and fight infection. However, you should only use home remedies for minor sunburn as with anything else. If you get severely sunburned, see a doctor immediately.
- Witch hazel helps heal bruises
If you hit your shin, witch hazel can help your bruises fade faster. Just place a piece of gauze soaked in witch hazel over the bruise for five minutes to help lessen the pain, fade the bruise, and reduce inflammation.
- Witch hazel works as an insect repellent.
To keep pesky flying bugs away, rub a little into your skin before you go out in the countryside and it will keep the bugs away. But in case you do still happen to get bitten or stung, if you apply witch hazel directly to the bite or sting, it will relieve the pain and reduce the inflammation. It also works well on poison ivy and poison oak.
